A stylish office development measuring 9,885m2 in Surrey, U.K., Velocity is an elegant and energy-efficient workplace that is attractive for landlords and tenants. Ranked with a BREEAM 'Excellent' rating and a B rating for energy performance, Daikin helped Velocity improve its green credentials by installing a Daikin VRV heat recovery system.
"Daikin is a personal preference of mine as I have had a longstanding relationship with them. They were first with VRV and continued to lead the field with improvements to the concept. Their systems are very reliable."
- Peter Wright, Velocity's Building Services Engineer
Gaining 'green' credentials
The Velocity building uses the latest technology to achieve more energy efficiency. The solar shading on the south-facing side reduces solar gain, while rooftop photovoltaic and solar thermal arrays provide renewable alternatives for some of the building’s energy needs.
What makes the VRV system stand out from other systems is its heat recovery system, which means it reuses energy to transfer heat from warm to cold spaces. The system also connects to a Building Energy Management System to ensure the indoor air temperature stays at 22° - 23°C throughout the year.
Initially, the Velocity building earned a 'very good' BREEAM rating, but when practitioners took into the account the Velocity's energy practices and management, the rating jumped to 'Excellent.'
Originally intending to achieve a 'very good' BREEAM rating, Velocity's green credentials were raised to 'Excellent,'

Low energy consumption
All the actions taken in the Velocity project lead to a building with extremely low energy consumption, with only €9/m² compared to €29/m² for a typical UK (CIBSE) office or less than 1/3. Below is a comparison of Velocity's energy consumption compared to a typical UK office building.
