Daikin’s ‘plug and play’ rooftop system offers sustainable year-round climate control solution for customer showroom
When it came to replacing the existing air conditioning system in its customer showroom, plumbing and heating product suppliers DESCO sought a clean, sustainable solution for climate control using heat-pump based technology.
Belgian company DESCO supplies both trade and private consumers from its 720 m2 showroom in Zaventum, Brussels. The old rooftop system used for cooling needed replacement. In looking for a new solution, the customer wanted to find a system that could also replace the gas boiler used for heating. Their objective was to implement a sustainable heat pump system to reduce the building carbon footprint while still being cost-effective.
Bumaco group, a long-term Daikin superdealer, offered Daikin’s new Rooftop Series to meet DESCO’s requirements for an energy-efficient solution with significantly reduced environmental impact, while ensuring optimum comfort for the large single space display area.
High efficiency EC plug fans with a high ESP of up to 800Pa have allowed extensive ductwork to be incorporated into the installation to achieve a single temperature setpoint over a large space.
Linear diffusers installed around the showroom ensure an even distribution of air within the extended space, with return air being collected via central grilles.
The new Daikin Rooftop Series, part of the Bluevolution range of products, delivers top sustainability, thanks to the use of R-32 refrigerant, which offers a lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) of just 1/3 of systems running on R-410A.
Providing higher energy efficiency, R-32 refrigerant is a single component refrigerant , making it easy to handle and recycle, thereby contributing to a circular economy.
As part of the total solution, Daikin also supplied smaller Sky Air DX heat pumps to provide cooling and heating to the back office areas.

Thanks to inverter compressors and adoption of R-32 refrigerant, the unit has a very high seasonal efficiency, keeping running costs low.
‘Plug and Play’: Indoor and outdoor system elements are supplied factory assembled as a single package, with only the ductwork requiring connection on site.

Energy savings and fresh air
The Daikin rooftop combines both indoor and outdoor sides in a single package, with only the ductwork requiring connection on site.
The system delivers a high all year round seasonal efficiency thanks to inverter compressors. The system installed at Desco integrates fresh air provision in the unit, reducing the need for different systems and the installation cost that goes with it.
Depending on the application and climatic conditions, up to 100% fresh air can be provided during free cooling operation.
An integral filter alarm indicates when filters are clogged and need cleaning, ensuring high performance to further optimise energy consumption.
Built-in versatility
Available from stock or made to order with a wide range of standard features, the new Rooftop Series covers up to 190 kW and is fully customisable with additional filtration, auxiliary heat sources, humidification and more.
It comes in 4 different versions: the base; FC2 with fresh air; FC3 with fresh air and extraction; and the RS4 with fresh air and a plate heat recovery element, recycling up to 58% of waste heat.
The system is easy to control via the full colour touch display directly available in the showroom.
Working together for the future
This new rooftop solution for DESCO's showroom is a direct result of Daikin's vision to become CO2 neutral by 2050 by offering lower GWP, high efficiency solutions to its customers that significantly reduce the carbon footprint of buildings.

Within the showroom, even air distribution is ensured via diffusers with return air capture by central grilles.

Fast and convenient to install, since the outdoor, indoor and ventilation components are all integrated in a single package.

An easy to use touch controller provides smart control to assist in monitoring and optimising energy consumption.
